Blainville, July 5, 2021— SPI Health and Safety (SPI) is pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached with the abell Group (ABG) in which SPI will sell to ABG its fire protection division. With this agreement, under the ownership of AGB, the customers of the Fire Protection Division will benefit from a broader product and solutions offering.
When founded in 1972, SPI was focused on fire protection. Progressively, the company broadened its expertise to include occupational health and safety, which has grown to become the core of its business. By choosing to sell the Fire Protection Division to ABG and focus exclusively on safety equipment distribution as well as services and training, SPI has enabled both organizations to focus on their core strengths, develop specialized solutions and invest in people to better serve this ever-expanding market.
The abell Group is well-established in the fire and safety business through its ownership of individual fire and safety operations located across Canada. They cover all aspects of the fire detection and protection space in a very broad and diverse range of industries including mining, marine, offshore, oil and gas, hydro, renewable energy, institutional, education, health care, etc. and have supported their broad customer base throughout Canada, United States, Caribbean and Europe. The abell group continues to look for opportunities to expand their fire detection and suppression business and this recent acquisition is key in expanding their base in Canada.

SPI will remain a key partner in this agreement and an active participant during the transition. The coming months will be dedicated to preparing this transition, but no changes to the service offering and the primary contacts are expected at the moment.
